American History

Due to state and county funding cuts, we have had to eliminate access to these databases.

From the explorers of the Americas to today’s headlines, American History investigates the people, events, and themes of our nation’s evolution. The American History database is designed to move students and young adult library patrons beyond memorizing names and dates toward a deeper understanding of America’s fascinating, complex story—its precontact origins, westward expansion, social movements, internal conflicts, and contemporary defining moments.

Daily Life Through History and Daily Life America

These databases to provide a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary resource that supports history, social studies, English, and language students, Daily Life Online moves seamlessly from past to present, providing context for contemporary life and culture. There's more to history and contemporary events than just the names of rulers and the rise of economic systems; Daily Life Online shows how fascinating and fun it is to explore how others lived and live their lives, and how their lives shaped ours.

Pop Culture Universe

Pop culture is what we love to read about and to think about. It’s living history: the world we inherit, take in, add to, modify, and pass along to the next generation. It’s democracy in action, the true face of a society. Pop culture speaks of our values, our dreams, and our aspirations. Our icons, idols, and ideas bring us together despite our differences. New technology (iPods, gaming, gadgets) ... Internet memes and chatspeak ... movies, TV, radio ... music ... comics and graphic novels ... sports and pastimes ... fads, fashion, and fast food: pop culture brings us together as a people.

World Folklore and Folklife

What's the story behind your name? What games did you play as a child? What's your grandmother's secret recipe, the neighborhood's ghost story, or the joke that gets told at every family gathering?

Folklore permeates the everyday lives of people around the world. We inherit a rich tradition of holidays, festivals, language, stories and fairy tales, proverbs, foodways, and folk remedies that define our society and our place within it. World Folklore and Folklife provides an exciting and accessible way to explore this vast and growing treasury of knowledge.
